Major: Economics and Philosophy
Class Year: 2008
“Economics has everything to do with, well… everything!”

Those are the words of Tyler Martinez, a philosophy and economics alumnus, who knew early on that money makes the world go round.

“Robert Cunningham put economics into perspective for me,” says Martinez, who graduated in 2008. “Now, I find it hard to leave economic terms out of my daily conversations with family and friends.”

Since graduating, he has been studying at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing.

“I recently started my third year,” he says. “Soon, I will declare a concentration in ‘solo/small firm practice,’ and I will take the bar exam in Michigan. Many areas of law interest me, including federal income tax law, wills, estates and trusts and criminal defense. “

As vice president of the Tax Law Society, vice dean of Delta Theta Phi and a member of both the Hispanic Latino Law Society and the Gay Rights Alliance, Martinez is certainly keeping busy. He hasn’t forgotten his professors from Alma College, though.

“I can strongly state that the economics department at Alma is a family you can depend on,” he says. “The faculty are reliable not only for academic help but also with personal struggles.”
